masthead #61 – halloweeny

Last year was the first time we didn’t give out Halloween candy. The neighborhood we’re in doesn’t have a lot of younger children anyway, but two years ago, the majority of the people that came to our door were teenagers without costumes holding gigantic pillowcases who grunt-demanded candy. Forget that.

How about you? Are you staying home and giving out candy this year?

  1. We won’t get anyone besides family kids because of how far out we live but we always dress the kids up and go to the richest neighborhood in town, they always give out the good stuff.

    Love the masthead!

  2. we live in a condo building that does have kids, but their parents must take them elsewhere for trick or treating because we NEVER get anyone! we’ll fill a bucket with candy this year again, though, just in case…

  3. Oh yeah! When I rented an apartment, I never got any trick-or-treaters. It was kinda sad. But then I bought my house, and my new neighborhood gets TONS. It’s so much fun!

The last two years I bought cheap dollar-store candy, but this year I think I’m gonna upgrade to the good stuff. Snickers … yum …

  4. Love the new masthead!!

We live in one of the popular neighborhoods in our area. People (including us) sit on their driveways with firepits roaring, music going as hundreds of kids pass through. It’s pretty awesome.

  5. We live on a dangerous road with no sidewalks so no trick or treaters ever. BUT both sets of grandparents live close by and the kids are never hurting for candy. This year my two teenagers made fun of me for putting a bowl of bite sized candy bars on the table a full five weeks before Halloween but they sure don’t have a problem sticking their hands in there!

  6. We will likely go to another neighborhood to let the kids trick or treat and I need to get the sexiest costume ever because I am not going to be frumpy dumpy, my costume I’ve had since ever since.

  7. I was SO EXCITED the year we moved from our apartment to our house because we’re in a decent neighborhood and I figured we’d have lots of trick or treaters. We had SIX and it took forever for us to finish all the candy. Apparently all the kids go to the fancy pants neighborhood down the street. Last year we said screw it, got dressed up and took Nico out to walk around the fancy pants street and watch the big kids, so we’re going to do that again. I haven’t decided yet if he gets to actually collect candy (he won’t even be 2 yet), but I’ve already got his costume ready. We’ll have a little bit of candy in case anyone comes by later, but I’m not staying home for six trick or treaters!

  8. Our HOA puts on a little carnival at the nearby park, so we usually take the kids to that and then trick or treat at a few houses on our walk home. This may be the last year we can do that – the carnival is really geared toward very small kids and since my son is 9, he’ll probably start to roll his eyes at it pretty soon.

We generally don’t bother to hand out candy – by the time we get home it is time for my little one to go to bed, so I just turn off the porch light and call it a day. There aren’t a lot of trick or treaters on our little cul-de-sac anyway, though.

  9. I don’t normally get a lot of trick-or-treaters, and in fact when Halloween falls on the weekend I’m not home to see them. But I do try to give out candy, because there are a LOT of little kids around and they usually look pretty adorable in their costumes.
