Family Camp Out
This year, Jason’s parents upped the ante at their annual camp out. They had an omelet bar, karaoke, a bounce house and an inflatable water slide for the kids. The weather cooperated (we stayed in their pop-up vs. our tent, which was heavenly) and their backyard was full of ruby-throated hummingbirds, melodic windchimes, grossly overweight squirrels, indigo buntings, and of course, the lunatic cardinal, who scared the pants off me when I used the spare bedroom to change and he lunged headfirst into the window, eyes wild and feathers ruffled.
This greeted us as we pulled into the driveway. Jason’s mom said she found it in the garage and no one knew where it came from. Welcome, campers!
Jason’s dad invented this omelet-cooking device, cut from a coffee can, wrapped with tinfoil to protect from the jagged edges, and featuring tinfoil tabs to pull off the griddle when done. Ingenious.
He calls his invention “Omelet Cakes.” They were delicious.
See how Jason’s parents’ dog relaxes nicely in the grass?
Not our dog. He has his own camping chair (true story).
I’d like to say I’m not as pale in real life, but that would be a lie.
Can’t wait for Camp Out 2010!

Sounds like a blast! I could totally go for an omelet cake right now!

How could you have that thing in your garage and not know where it came from?!
After our recent camping adventure, we’re considering getting a pop-up. So much more civilized. So grown up.
You guys look great! I love your marshmallow shirt.

Your parent’s dog looks exactly like our dog, Lucy! She even has spots on her chest like that. Lucy was a pound puppy from Indiana but maybe they are relatives!
Those omelets look heavenly and I love the cheese whiz (or what I am assuming is cheese whiz! LOL!)
Also, LOVE THAT SHIRT!?!?

That t-shirt is PERFECTION!!!!!!!
Shorty having his own camping chair makes perfect sense. SO glad you had a great time, cardinal attacks and all!

Sounds like a great time! And what an adorable photo of you three.

I just love, love, love! LOVE! the Family Camp Out. It is everything I hope for in a family, you know? I am so glad you guys have people like these in your lives.
And it totally kicks butt and is absolutely reasonable that Shorty has his own chair. Totally!

Ok – Where the hell did you get that t-shirt!?!?! IT IS AWESOME.
Comment by Artemisia — July 28, 2009 @ 11:31 am
Artemisia,
I got it from here: http://t-shirts.cafepress.com/item/marshmallow-womens-fitted-tshirt-dark/370731398
Since it’s fitted, it runs small, so I ordered a large and it’s perfect.

OK, first off…that creepy person thing is awesome and I’m loving that it just randomly appeared and nobody knows from where (and also slightly worried about weird voodoo type things going on over there). Also, if you stood next to me you’d look like the tannest person EVER…so don’t worry about looking pale. I’ve got you beat. (Let’s just say at work, my nicknames are…Casper, albino girl, and most recently translucent). Sigh.

Seeing as how no one knew where “the head” came from, we through it out after the camp out! It just wasn’t that much fun if it didn’t have a story behind it!
Christina – what breed does your vet think that Lucy is? Our dog was a stray. She showed up at our house when she was about 6 months old. The vet says that she is part black lab and part boxer. Could be something else in the mix too. She is the best dog ever…with people anyway.

What fun! And yes, you wore the perfect shirt.

I am not a camper, but I might if I could go with you guys. Awesome!
PS – Tell Shorty it’s okay to require his own chair. Totally understandable.

Again, Shelly and I are in total agreement. I’m not a camper either, but I would go with you guys. That looks so fun!

You guys camp in style! I’m a little envious – you make my scrambled eggs and insane amount of bacon look a little sad.

Love the shirt!

You’re telling me that jackass cardinal IS STILL AROUND? Dude, it’s like he’s the cranky old man neighbor who yells at the kids to NOT TOUCH THE ROCKS IN HIS FRONT YARD.
Love the t-shirt.
Love that Shorty has his own chair.
And love this whole camp out craziness.

Campout sounds so totally cool!

Shorty reminds me of my dog, who is not allowed to see this post lest he demand his own chair on our next camping trip
