cold
One of the local news stations did a piece where they took a measuring cup full of boiling water and tossed it into the air to see what would happen when it was -17. And you know what? The water instantly froze into tiny ice particles! Ha ha! Isn’t that great?
Man, I’m chilly just watching stuff like that. Like when people jump into the lake in January. On purpose. In fact, it’s cold enough that the business next to my workplace has three bags of ice sitting outside their front door. We are using the weather to keep things frozen! We shun your appliances, society! God help us.
And weirdly? I don’t even feel that cold today, even though the paper says the windchill is -40 degrees. I mean, I have that deep cold that’s settled into my bones with a glass of wine and a new book, but I have that every day. I’m feverishly looking forward to Saturday when, as the paper optimistically headlines, we’ll have temperatures without a minus sign in front of them! It’d be sad that I’m so excited, if 17 degrees above zero didn’t feel like a day at the beach. In fact, I’m going to wear only one pair of socks to celebrate.
Oh, I just did that thing where I think it’s Friday and then I get all irrationally angry when I realize it’s not. Grrr.
Hey, I need new song recommendations. I just found two iTunes gift cards while cleaning out my purse, so bring it on. I’m open to pretty much anything today, although you should know I played Alice Cooper’s “Poison” on repeat all day yesterday so it should be noted that I have no musical taste whatsoever.
Your lips are venomous poison! Sorry.
Oh, VERY FUNNY, iTunes. I just put you on shuffle and you immediately brought up Cinderella’s “Long Cold Winter” album. It appears this weather has trapped my music preferences inside a giant, freezing ice block of 1989.

haha…I love that I complain the weather is dropping to 22 degrees here. sigh. (I swear that’s still cold haha). also…if you like indie rock…then Bright Eyes is good as is Mates of State, and Kings of Leon. If you don’t like indie rock…then I am of NO help at all. haha sorry.

You know, I have always felt that once you get to zero, there really is no difference between that and, say 40 below.
Other than bragging rights, of course. This reminds me of the intense bitterness I feel when the TX weather rats do that “cook an item on the sidewalk” bit. Yeah. HILARIOUS.

i’m not too indie (well.. i mean.. who knows if i am. i’m too lazy to find indie bands, though, i do know that, so i usually end up with mainstream stuff) but i LOVE the kings of leon. also sarah bareilles and regina spektor. ooh! and evanescence for angry chick music.

Ha! I was also going to suggest Kings of Leon. I’m really liking their newest album “Only by the night”.

Ha ha – our tv station had some water in a mug to see how long it would take to freeze. Add weather girl to the list of jobs I never want – why do they make them stand outside to tell everyone else to limit their outdoor activity? I just seems cruel.

God, I’ve been doing that Friday thing ALL DAY. Am now ready to punch someone. Yeah, I don’t envy your weather at all. It’s not supposed to get above freezing here tomorrow and I am DREADING it. At least I bought new boots this week, so my feet won’t be as cold.

We’ve been using our garage as a fridge since we thawed our thanksgiving turkey there. Now it is too cold to be a fridge, as evidenced by the frozen bulging 5 gallon water jug. Luckily, I had moved all the beer out beforehand in anticipation of the cold snap.

Is that a news trick that they do every year? In Seattle, reporters pick up some snow and talk about it like we don’t know what snow is.

Have I mentioned that weather like that would KILL ME DEAD? Seriously, I cannot even wrap my Texas brain around -40 degrees. What do you do? How do you go outside in that? The mind, it BAFFLES.

My husband pulled out a CD of 80’s music and played “Name That Tune” with me the other day. It’s amazing how that stuff just sticks in your head.

My 6-year old loves Alice Cooper…she was introduced to him on THE MUPPET SHOW. Yep, he was a guest host. I’m a Chicago/Styx/Queen era fan. I’m of no help if you’re interested in current bands. Stay warm!
