Am I on speaker? Take me off!
I don’t really get speakerphones. I know they’re useful for conference calls when people are in separate cities, but most of the time everyone huddles over the phone like frozen refugees over a burning trash barrel, struggling to hear. The sound is always distorted, with half of the people sounding like they’re buried under 200 pounds of concrete – in Russia – and the other half puncturing your ear drum every time they blat a consonant.
Tomorrow is Doughnut Day. I bet Jason thinks I forgot, as not a single day goes by without me forgetting something (such as watering the plants or picking up milk), but when it comes to food that is bad for me, I’ve got a mind like a steel trap.
My car is only 50 miles from reaching 170,000. I can’t decide which is more pathetic: if I make sure to drive my car everywhere this weekend to witness it (I always forget if I’m driving to work) or if I take a picture of the odometer as it changes. Or both. Never mind.
You’re welcome: from now until Nov. 24th, go to restaurant.com and get a $25 restaurant gift certificate for $2. That’s right – $2. You can get $100 for $8. (NOTE: You can use the $25 gift certificate only if you have a minimum food purchase of $35. Each restaurant has its own restrictions. So it’s not like you’re getting a meal for FREE, but you’re paying $2 to get $25 off your order.) Just type in your ZIP code, select a participating restaurant and the certificate amount, and wait until you check out to apply the code “SURPRISE” (all caps, no quotes) to get the additional 80% off. I called ahead to the restaurant I wanted to make sure they’d honor these certificates and they said they would. (Also, after you purchase the certificate, you’ll see a page where it looks like you have to fill out a bunch of stuff, but just scroll to the bottom and hit “No thanks” to go directly to print your certificate.)
Also, also, I do not work for restaurant.com. Just so that’s clear.
We are bringing pies to Thanksgiving this year (“bringing” vs. “baking”). We ordered two pumpkin pies and one French silk. And then Jason, the man who can’t eat veggies or fruits but can mysteriously tolerate pumpkin pie, said we should’ve gotten three pumpkin pies, and when I said, “I don’t like pumpkin pie,” he looked at me like I was crazy. And to be honest, with the exception of French silk (only the pie, not the crust), I don’t like any kind of pie. Does this make me a communist?
What kind of pie do you like?

Definitely not a communist; most pie is vile. I only like Boston Cream Pie which, hello, is not a pie at all! Pumpkin? Bleh. Mincemeat? Fie.

Please tell me you went to BAKERS SQUARE, which I miss so. OH! Or Marie Callenders!

That’s easy – a nice warm piece of Apple pie with a mound of vanilla ice cream on top

I don’t like pie either really. Too dry. Give me a nice piece of chocolate cake thank you very much.
And Tessie, I don’t think there are many more Baker’s Squares left here in the metro area??? Not sure about the rest of MN.

I don’t really like pie either. Except my mom makes these apples pies… OH MAN. Even then, I mostly like to eat them with eggs for breakfast the next morning.
Anyway, her to-die-for exception aside, I don’t get why anyone wastes their time or calories with pie. For me, they’re just a nod to tradition… and an excuse to eat pie and eggs for breakfast the next day.

I LOVE pie. Especially berry pies–raspberry, blackberry, triple berry. Cake? Meh.
My in-laws put us on speaker every time we talk. I HATE it.

That restaurant.com thing sounds AWESOME. I will check it out on Monday, because right now I am too tired to spell awesome properly.

I’m more of a cake person than a pie person, but I do like some pies. Pumpkin is okay once a year, esp for breakfast. Fruit pies I’m iffy about because most of the time I’d rather eat the fresh fruit than the syrupy coated mushball the fruit becomes in a pie.
I remember Bakers Square. I used to love one of their salads and since I had salad felt totally justified in ordering pie for dessert.
Please tell me you have the milk in supply to complement Doughnut Day.

I love pie, but I’m really picky about the crust. Sometimes I will just eat the filling if it is too doughy, greasy, or whatever.
Also, I nearly killed myself trying to take a picture of 100,000 while driving down the freeway. Best to pull over first

I like lemon meringue and Key lime pie. Which, as noted about Boston cream, are not really pies.
I do like cherry pie filling, though, and will tolerate pie to get it.

I hate all pie. I didn’t know there were others.

I like pie! Most pie, anyway. Pumpkin is awesome, and my mother makes a buttermilk pie to die for. Cherry pie = NO.

I LURVE pecan pie. And sweet potato pie. I cannot– canNOT– eat cherry pie. I don’t care how unAmerican that makes me. My sister and I call it “eyeball pie” and that should explain everything.

i am straining right now to think of a pie i don’t like. to be fair, i’m sort of a garbage-disposal type of person… thinking of ANYTHING i don’t like is sort of hard.
so obvs, i’m off to restaurant.com now..

PECAN or ANY pie from the Rustic Inn on Lake Superior

I LOVE my speakerphone. But mine is clear and I don’t have to haunch. Anymore, cradling the phone receiver just irritates me.

I just got off the phone with the county school district office where I was on SPEAKER PHONE! I’m not making this up!
I enjoy cake more than pie. But if I have to eat pie, I like sweet potato pie…but only if it’s been made by Mrs. Charlotte, the custodian at my church.
