Acts of kindness
Last night Jason gave me his last piece of leftover Halloween candy: a Three Musketeers bar. Even though he had watched me systematically decimate my own leftover stash with regard only to my own immediate gratification, he still selflessly donated his last piece of candy to me because he knows how much I love Three Musketeers. That’s love.
Then today, he secretly spirited Shorty away to get his claws trimmed (our previous attempt to do it ourselves ended in a nasty argument that featured the insults: “You’re stupid,” and “No, YOU are” and left Shorty with all his claws trimmed save one. Also, there was bleeding). And then he took Shorty for a stroll around Petco and bought him two Frisbees.
And then he raked the yard.
Now I want to do something nice for someone, so I’m compiling a list of things to send as a care package to the troops for Christmas, in honor of both their service and today being Veterans Day. I don’t care what your views are on the war (and honestly, there really isn’t anyone out there who thinks war is awesome; rather, it is a way to prevent fanatical religious zealots who willfully renege on peace treaties and bomb schools filled with children for political gain from inflicting even further damage to our nation and those we are helping to protect), but to those who are currently serving, and those who have served in the past, it’s the least I can do to say thank you for protecting our country and allowing me to live a pretty great life.
What’s the last nice thing someone did for you?

My husband paid for lunch. Sometimes he’ll lend me his car so he can clean out mine and he’ll even gas it, too!

Watched our kid so I could go away by myself for the weekend. Not that he doesn’t owe me since he travels, a lot, but still, it was good.

My next door neighbor out of the blue asked if my son wanted to come over and play this morning while my daughter was at preschool. I got 3 hours all to myself!!!

Mistah just brought me a cup of coffee. Well, I had to ask, but still.
But I’m on this. I’m going to pounce on him with something nice…

My dear friend (and stepmom’s sister) gave me a bracelet in support of PSP, a neurological disease that my stepmom is dieing from.
My favorite one in the past few months, however, is when Jason and his girlfriend surprised me with a portable fire pit (even though he knew his dad didn’t want us to have one). About the time I was feeling very sorry for myself and very unappreciated by my son, we found the firepit on our table one night when we got home late. Jason had been in town for the day and he and Andi wanted to thank us for everything we had done for them this summer.
Terrific you are sending a package!

I checked with Sid about the care package contents. He said you can’t go wrong with batteries (AA/AAA/or even a rechargeable set), granola bars, and gatorade mix. I’m so glad you’re doing that!
A few weeks ago while Sid was still gone training, a friend just stopped by the office out of the blue to bring a casserole for our dinner that night. She said her husband had been gone overnight and she was overwhelmed by herself with three small children. She didn’t know how I had done it by myself for almost four months.

When A. knew he’d be away when I got home from work the other day, he brought in the wood for the evening fire that I would have to start myself, and even chopped up some kindling for me. It was all sitting there, ready to go when I got home. He’s awesome like that.

Oh I love this. Today Chip took time out from work to take Alice and I to lunch. It was such a sweet surprise.

I offered my help to some confused tourists on the subway last night.
