- Dear MN State Patrol: Were the five troopers lining the 7-mile stretch of highway during my commute really necessary? Are that many felonies committed on Interstate 94 from 12:30-1:30 p.m.?
- I had to edit a financial document today that detailed the forecasted outlook for the U.S. economy in 2009 and 2010. One word: YIKES.
- I need an easy recipe to make my own chicken dumpling soup. Have any of you made this from scratch? Please help. Bonus points if it doesn’t require more than 8 ingredients or slaughtering my own bird.
- Look, it’s no secret I love the movie Major League. And the Minnesota Twins. But now that the season comes down to a one-game playoff tonight, and we already have a guy named Tolbert on the team, can we continue to follow the script and win this game, please? (You know what would be awesome? If Morneau comes up to bat in the 9th, points to the outfield as if calling his shot, and then drops a bunt to score the winning run. Make this happen, baseball gods!)
- It’s so great to renew your web hosting services for another year and then have your site promptly go down for 4 hours.
- I think we may enroll Shorty in some training classes. Because he’s shy, he’ll qualify for the Humane Society’s Wallflower sessions – hee. I hope he eventually gets the nerve to ask someone to dance.
- Well, it’s only Day 2 of slightly cooler weather and it’s official: I’m already tired of my winter clothing.
- Also official: I am over my circus peanut obsession. Mainly because I ate the last one.
- After three years, we are finally going to paint the small downstairs bedroom, a room currently painted dark blue, covered with the previous owner’s son’s name, and decorated with hot air balloons, airplanes and a painted-on growth chart. The reason we have waited this long (besides being lazy) is because I insist the carpet is gray and Jason says it is brown. Abby (who is mostly gray but with brownish undertones) has sprawled on the carpet numerous times in an attempt to resolve the issue, but the results are inconclusive. Anyway, I’m thinking a nice terra cotta orange would work with a gray-brown carpet, right?
- I stabbed a man in the stomach in my dream last night. Best to stay on my good side, people.

I LOVE the fact that the room still has the previous owner’s kid’s name all over it. Seriously. Awesome.

i wonder if your dream bled over into my dream? because i had legit nightmares for the first time in FREAKING YEARS, full of stabbings and axe murders and hacked off heads and such. so, uh, please stop it, if that was you. thanks.

I didn’t dream last night. I don’t even think I moved after my head hit the pillow. I’m fairly certain I closed my eyes and then entered a space time vortex and it was all of the sudden 6 AM and my alarm was going off.
Tee Hee. Tolbert. Is that you Tolbert?
Crossing my fingers for the Twinkies!! There is nothing better than the attitude of the Twin Cities when the Twins are in the Series. I mean seriously people if you could bottle all of that happiness you’d have the solution to world peace.

Dude, I’m glad we’re friends. Oh, and good luck to Shorty. The girl dogs are just as nervous as you are.

Wow, perhaps it would be best to send you a package of circus peanuts, so as to stay on your best side possible?

Like the rest of America, I am totally over Rachael Ray, but! She does have a great chicken and dumpling recipe. And I have been on here for, like, twelve years trying to remember the HTML. Don’t drink and blog. ANYWAY, here:

Sorry it’s old school.

So what was the kid’s name?
I am so excited for colder weather, but then I’m in DC and not MN, so I’m fully aware that my ‘colder’ is nowhere near your calibur.

Shauna, I make my chicken and dumplings the way my mom always has and it is a very tasty recipe. All it takes is boiling chicken breasts in a pot of water until done. Let chicken cool slightly and remove from pot but save the broth (drain through a colander to remove pieces of fat). Seperate chicken from bone and add back to broth (this is why cooling chicken is crucial, saves you from third degree burns). Bring broth back to a boil. Mix Bisquik and milk in a bowl until slightly doughy (I think there is a recipe on the box for dumplings) and add by spoonfuls to the boiling broth. Turn heat to low and let simmer until dumplings are cooked. Three ingredients – easy peasy. Oh, and add some salt and pepper. The dumplings really thicken the broth up.

I am in serious love with your new banner featuring Shorty. It just makes me happy.
Very curious what the kids name on the wall is.

I love the new masthead – you are SO clever and creative

First of all – I really like the new (oh my God, why can’t I remember what it’s called) site-topper thingy.
Also, I had a dream the other night that we got a snowstorm on October 1st. One that had everyone staying home. I woke up and thought for sure there would be snow outside. Thankfully, there wasn’t (although I would have LOVED the day off of work). Stupid weird dreams.

Sorry about your team. And mine. Sigh.

Homemade chicken dumpling soup sounds SO GOOD. Please send me some leftovers?
My dream last night entailed a man torturing patients on the set of Gray’s Anatomy. It actually was scary. Perhaps you were that man?
I am not looking forward to winter either.

I have a good, easy recipe at home but it’s pretty similar to what Tina B said. I think I cook the chicken in broth and water though, not just water, and then for the dumplings you can use a can of biscuits! I also like to add celery and onion. I’ll try to post that recipe this weekend because it’s a good one to share. Perfect for fall!!

Oh! The Wallflower class! Will you be going to GVHS? If so, I hope you’ll say hi to Kate for me. Having a Rottweiler presents certain stereotypes and fear in people, but Kate and one of the other ladies at the GV site were AWESOME! Oh, wait. I’m just remembering that this was actually the Saturday playtime class for under 10 lbs. and shy/wallflower dogs and not the actual training class.
I’m very curious as to if this is the site you’ll be going to. I actually had to stop going as I became very disheartned with the training. (But it was due to my breed and the lack of trainer experience with Rotts. Also the fact that my dog has special needs.)
I love chicken and dumplings. My mother-in-law makes it and I think she does the exact easy thing that Tina B. does above.

Me Today,
Yep, we’ll probably go to GVHS. We’re going to see if Shorty needs the Wallflower class, or if he’d be OK in Level 1.
Do you work with A Rotta Love at all? One of my coworkers is very active with them and has a few Rotties who are super sweet.
Comment by Shauna — October 3, 2008 @ 11:17 am
No, but I have heard about A Rotta Love. I should look into that right now. I could use some help with our current Rott. He’s very sweet, but he’s odd. I think there were some issues at birth and caused some mild problems.
In the meantime I need to find a new place to work/train with him as the HS just wasn’t cutting it for me. I’ll have to tell you the story some time.
