I was tagged by Shelly to list five addictions of mine.

1. Right now I am inexplicably addicted to FrostTop root beer and circus peanuts. I drink root beer maybe three times a year and apparently, fall is prime Root Beer Drinking Weather for me. I can’t get enough of it. And the circus peanuts? I don’t know; they’re simultaneously horrifying and delicious.

2. Fantasy football. I know I’ve mentioned this before, but I get all crazy and track statistical trends (best vs. pass, worst vs. rush, most takeaways, etc.) in an Excel spreadsheet to help with my team picks every week. I KNOW.

3. Chapstick. I honestly have to have a tube within 2 feet of me at all times, preferably of the Burt’s Bees variety. Last summer at our local city’s street parade, a dentist’s office gave out free samples of chapstick. It was the best parade throwaway EVER.

4. The soup at a little shop near work. I don’t know why or how (since they’re mainly a bike-repair business), but this place has the BEST sandwiches and homemade chicken dumpling soup I’ve ever tasted.

5. Cribbage. Jason & I play anywhere from 200-400 games a year, and yet every time we start a new game, I get excited. (Even though I am still losing by 37 games – ridiculous.)

How about you guys?

  1. 1. Diet Coke
    2. Tivo’d reruns of Law & Order SVU
    3. Trying to figure out how one of my 5 cats is getting outside when all of my windows are closed.
    4. Making movies out of pictures on “Movie Maker”. Just learned how to use this program and it’s more fun than a barrel full of monkeys.
    5. Reading 30 or so blogs every day, including this one.

  2. 1) My morning Chai. I try to give it up but we always find our way back to each other.
    2) My dog. Cause she’s so dang cute!!
    3) Sugar after each meal. About an hour after I eat I crave a strong dose of a sugary substance. Wait that doesn’t happen after brekfast? Why do you suppose?
    4) Reading on the bus. I’m reading SO much now that I’m on the bus an hour each weekday. It’s very nice.
    5) Burritos. Lots and lots of burritos.

  3. I’m addicted to Chapstick too. I seriously need to have it with me at all times.

  4. Ew circus peanuts? Seriously? haha I didn’t know anyone actaully ate those! I’m right there with ya on the root beer though. Yum. A couple of brewpubs that we go to make their own root beer, which has now become my drink of choice on nights when we actually go out.
In high school I became addicted to carmex. It says on the pot to use it “up to” three times a day or something, but if I wasn’t wearing it my lips would completely dry out and hurt. I swear that stuff is like crack. I broke the habit by switching to non-medicated chapstick. I’ve now been carmex-free for a decade. And yes, burt’s is great.

  5. Hmmm there are so many when you get to be my age …

    1. CHAPSTICK. I am the same way – I panic if I don’t have one with me at all times. That has come back to bite me when I don’t take my purse, and put one in my pocket, and then don’t check pockets before washing/drying. Old lady lips needs lots and lots of chapstick. I prefer the ultra which is getting harder to find. AND the Star Tribune gave away chapstick at the state fair the summer of 2007 – so I also know that exuberant feeling of receiving free lip moisturizer. I started to stock up on the stuff, so I would never be without, but realized THEY EXPIRE!!!! OH NOES!
    2. NUTRADERM lotion. I have been using this stuff since 1973 when I used to go in for ultraviolet and sulfer dry ice treatments (resulting in a lovely bright red face that resembled that of a racoon). This also is EXTREMELY hard to find nowadays; however, it occurred to me that I did own a computer and there was something called the internet where I could google and then purchase. My son would be so proud of me.
    3. BULLDOG HOCKEY. Go UMD. Go Dogs. We are going to beat those dirty rodents this year.
    4. WATCHING REALITY SHOWS – like big brother and survivor. OK, I admit it, I love watching other people and living through them vicariously.
    5. EATING SALTY CRUNCHY STUFF (with a glass of wine) especially puffy cheetos while watching above mind numbing reality shows. I have to resist purchasing bags of such culinary and tactile pleasure, because I CAN’T STOP EATING THEM and along with getting wrinkly (sp?) old skin – my hips are getting wider and wider.

  6. Yes, but do you speak like Napoleon Dynamite when “your lips hurt real bad, GOSH!”

  7. 1. COFFEE – can’t start my day without it.
    2. LOTION – I can’t go to bed unless I “lube up” as my husband puts it.
    3. DVDs – I’m not a big TV person, I just love to have DVDs of my favorite movies on hand at all times.
    4. MY iPOD – Love.
    5. WINE – My in-laws are at my house right now due to the fallout from Hurricane Ike, and I don’t know how much longer they’ll be staying. THANK GOD FOR WINE, is what I’m saying.

  8. Awesome! I love your list.

  9. I haven’t had circus peanuts in years! I love right up until the point where I’ve had one too many and then I hate them. :-)

    1. Coffee – coffee will always be at the top of any obsession list.

    2. Pizza – I would get this every night for dinner lately. My husband has a strict pizza-once-a-week rule though.

    3. Moon pies – They are a southern treat that you rarely find in New England. A local store sells them sometimes and I am like a kid in a candy store whenever I find them.

    4. My hair – I can’t decide if I want to keep it this length or cut it off short again.

    5. Facebook – I recently added an old friend from home and suddenly I was friended by all these people from my home town – most of whom I haven’t seen in over 20 years! It’s been fun finding out what everyone is up to (and a little scary knowing who has procreated).

  10. #1 = Chapstick aka “Chappy” (coined by my niece). And yes, Kirida, I am quite often heard saying, “But my lips hurt real bad!” I am almost always bound to ask someone (usually my husband) if he has chappy on him because even though I need it ALL the time I never seem to have it on me. Just ask Marie over at Life in a Tiny Town; she’ll attest to this. One Christmas “Santa” left me 30 chapsticks in my stocking.

#2 = Acidic bubbly goodness with my lunch. Dr. Pepper is my lover, but Mt. Dew and Cherry Cokes are always waiting in line.

#3 = Scrapbooking. I eat, think, breath, and live for scrapbooking. I don’t make enough time to do it, but I am CONSTANTLY thinking about it!

    #4 = Checking my e-mail.

#5 = Facebook. Great time-waster and excellent way to keep in touch quickly.

    Fun list!

  11. HA! If I have to hear Me Today fight over chapstick with her husband I am going to hold them both down and smear it all over their… faces. =) HA! No, it IS pretty funny, how they are always hiding it from each other, always looking for it, always accusing the other of having it and not wanting to share. THEY NEED CHAPSTICK CHAINS!
