You spin me right round baby, right round

This spiral stairwell is right outside my workplace and I love it. Also, it reminds me of how I feel every Monday: running around and around without accomplishing anything.

Speaking of work, you know those questionnaires that test your ability to work from home, where they ask scare-tactic questions like:

1. Are you willing to work long hours?

2. Are you able to self-manage your time efficiently?

3. Are you a perfectionist?

Yeah. Screw that. They should be honest and have a questionnaire to test how willing you are to work outside the home, too:

1. Do you mind having no work at all for three hours and then suddenly having 6 hours of work to do within the next 30 minutes?

2. Can you withstand the stench of your coworkers’ lunches burning in the microwave?

3. Can you endure seeing how far your coworkers stretch the notion of “casual Fridays”?

4. Do you enjoy being carbon-copied onto every single email distributed throughout the office?

5. Are you able to answer a phone call, respond to an email, type a letter and converse with a sales manager at the same time?

6. Can you suppress your rage when the printer breaks while printing an important presentation 10 minutes before the client is due?

7. Are you allergic to perfumes used by coworkers to bathe in?

8. Do you need office supplies to supplement your home office stash?

9. Are you willing to say three words during a 6-hour brainstorming meeting?

10. Do you enjoy spending 8 hours to complete work that would take you three hours at home?

  2. So True!!! Especially the perfume part. Two of us work in a medium sized room and my coworker sprays herself 3 times a day. I HATE IT.

  4. HAHAHAHAHA. I’d be laughing even harder but I have another five hours’ of work to complete in the next 45 minutes. Back to the grindstone. Thanks for the comic relief.

  5. I feel barfy even LOOKING at that thing.

So awesome. WORD about the 3 hours of work in 8 hours, except I would work approximately ZERO hours if I were at home, which is why I can never, ever be allowed outside the confines of this office for pay.

  6. Brilliant, as usual.

That staircase is awesome. Looks like DNA.

  7. Both of your lists remind me again of why I want to work from home SO BADLY. I hate working with other people. And having the phone ring 40 times a day when it’s only for me twice. And driving to work. And and and…

  8. Wow, that staircase is very cool! But makes me very nervous as I have sort of an issue with heights.

TOTALLY AGREE with your list, especially #3. The dress code at my office is somewhat of a hot button topic for me. In fact, I am getting mad about it right now! GRAH.

  11. #1. Definitely #1. Hence the cruising around blogs at 4:20 in the afternoon. I also think I’d waste a lot of time just staring out the window at that awesome stairway!

  12. I believe that survey is awesome and well-researched. Also you could throw in something about enduring the loud co-workers chatting it up or having a conference call down the hall while putting the phone on “speakerphone” mode.

    At least, that’s my reality.
