Progress
This morning Jason and I got up to work out to our new Billy Blanks “Get Celebrity Fit!” Tae Bo DVD. (Billy, exuberantly: Are you a rock star? Me: No. Billy: Are you a celebrity?!? Me: NO. I’m going back to bed.)
Right away, Billy punished us (OK, me) for laughing at his tie-dyed shorts because unlike every other exercise video I’ve done, there was no warmup, like, AT ALL. Jason and I exchanged startled glances as we kicked and punched and flailed, and after one particularly wheezy interlude (again ME), Jason checked the timer to see how much time was left. My heart shriveled a little when I saw the display: 35 MINUTES.
Just like before, I had to sit down for a bit because my body malfunctioned while attempting its “breaking a sweat” function, which meant my face got so overheated I feared my punching and feinting was going to be replaced by puking and fainting. But then I finally broke a sweat and thought, “Hey, this is EASY!” Ridiculous.
Billy got bonus points for first demonstrating the moves in slow motion, so even non-coordinated people such as myself understood them, and for being totally honest when he said, “Just one more set.” That’s very important to me – seriously. DO NOT LIE TO ME about reps or how many more seconds of agony I need to endure.
I know there’s some quote out there about how no one ever works out and thinks afterwards, “I really regret working out,” but conversely, I never wake up early to work out and think, “Boy, I got too much sleep; I should’ve woken up earlier.”
Regardless, OPERATION: 2008 FITNESS continues unabated.

Great job! I feel the same way before finally “breaking a sweat,” like my face is going to just EXPLODE instead. Weird.
Woo hoo! Keep it up!

Ah, Billy Blanks. I sort of miss him. Did he do the “Imagine yourself in a bikini, rocking the beach” line?
I will admit to verily liking the uppercut exercises. There is something inherently fun about fake punching someone.

The only time I have ever gotten up early to work out was for basketball practice in middle school. There was a large angry woman yelling at me every day, and I have never been in such good shape.

I am so impressed! Also, you guys must have an incredible comfort level with each other if you can work out TO A VIDEO with each other. I can go to the gym with Torsten but I still feel awkward doing stupid video routines in front of him. Maybe it would be easier if he were doing them too, though.

I don’t know how people can motivate themselves to work out in the morning. I can barely walk in the morning, seriously. SOmething happens overnight and I become horrendously uncoordinated and creaky and OLD. However, you go!

I was going to say what Jess did. I cannot imagine working out with my hubby just b/c I know what a buffoon I look like, so then I’d get the giggles and never accomplish anything.

Jess & Shelly,
It helps that we’re both doing the video and are focused on our own agony, rather than just one of us doing the workout while the other one laughs helplessly. Although I needed to remind Jason this morning that I did not need his input as to my form.
Flibberty,
I KNOW. I would rather not work out in the evenings, but I get home around 6:00 and Jason gets home anywhere between 6:00-8:00, and we like to eat right away and then we don’t want to work out right after eating and after I finally realized there really wasn’t any time to do it in the evenings, finally sucked it up for the mornings. Bleh.

I can’t believe you got up early to work out! Go you and Jason!
The worst is when the instructor (or Billy Blanks, whomever you are following) shouts “WE’RE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING DONE!!” as you’re near vomiting. Awesome.

Before this last baby, I USED TO get up at 5am and run. Currently, I am trying to manage to get up at 5am to walk on the treadmill. So far, all I’ve managed is to reset the alarm for 7:00 while half-asleep. That’s exercise, right? All the rolling over and reaching and pushing buttons stuff?

I feel EXACTLY the same way about sleep. I have NEVER IN MY LIFE woken up feeling “ready” to get up. That’s why I have to work out at lunch.
Also, I AM SO WITH YOU on the lying about sets. BR and I had one of our worst fights EVER about this issue. He is a trainer (BARF) and he is all “IT WORKS” and I am all “SO DOES WIRING YOUR JAW SHUT THAT DOESN’T MAKE IT RIGHT!”
