h-e-double hockey sticks

Filed under: Miscellaneous — Shauna @ 4:42 pm

We’re going to a Wild hockey game tonight. Despite my extensive knowledge of football and baseball, I am absolutely clueless when it comes to hockey. I know certain guys can’t cross certain lines on the ice and the goalie protects the goal while the other guys ram each other into the glass while trying to bust out as many teeth as possible before the referee intervenes, but what else should I know before I go so I don’t sound like Brian Regan at the game?

“Go, team! Beat the other team soundly in the skirmish! YAY! They scored a goal-unit!”

  1. The Sports Cliche List is your definitive guide to sounding like you know what you’re talking about without knowing what you’re talking about. It has helped me through many a sport.

  2. I am also planning to go to my first-ever hockey game this month and facing a similar dilemma. I hear blood bounces on ice, though. I’m looking forward to seeing that.

  3. Hello Insomnia, I am so totally using the “biscuit in the basket” phrase when they score a goal tonight. (And if the game ends in a 0-0 tie, I will cry.)

Jess, Are you serious about the blood bouncing??? Because that is AWESOME.

  5. Hockey. People are obsessed with hockey in these parts. After years of watching hockey on TV, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s so fast that all you really need to do is cheer when everyone else does.

And watch to see if blood really bounces on ice. I’m dying to know.

  6. Hockey is much more fun in person and easy to get to know if you pay attention more than you do drink (which was normally what I did back when my hubby played semi pro ;) Not much to it. AND if you do not care, just scream and yell during fights and marvel at the speed and ability of these guys to do shit on skates that many of us can barely do on our feet!
