Dirk Diggler
I deleted yesterday’s post, but I’m glad I posted it in the first place (even if it was for only a short time) because your comments meant a lot to me. Thank you.
Anyway, today’s topic – Thanksgiving! My aunt put me in charge of bringing a dessert, and it’s not some complicated culinary coup de grace like pumpkin cheesecake or made-from-scratch pecan pie. It’s…Jello Jigglers!
How hard can that be, right? But can you believe that I, a lifelong resident of the Midwest, have never made Jello Jigglers? (Also, can you believe that I channel an inner 14-year-old boy by always adding the phrase “Dirk Diggler” after I say “Jello Jigglers”? Yes, you probably can.)
So…Jello Jigglers (Dirk Digglers)…I know you add boiling water to the mix and then pour everything into a pan, but what kind of pan? Is a plain baking sheet not tall enough? I don’t want to end up with Jello Squares, because that’s not right and also, I can’t say “Dirk Diggler” afterwards. I bought two disposable foil pans that are about 13 x 9, so I’m hoping that does the trick.
Also, today is the last day of The Hand living with us. It’s been nice and I’ll miss all the mini heart attacks, but tomorrow it goes to live with my aunt. Let’s just say she’ll be surprised either when she goes to bed, or when she showers in the morning. Adios, Hand! I’m sure I’ll see you and your creepy, perfectly flesh-colored appendages soon!
What’s everyone doing for Thanksgiving? Are you hosting a shindig yourself, or traveling cross-country to eat turkey in front of someone else’s TV? Whatever you’re doing, I hope you have a nice holiday.
As for us, we’ll be stuffing ourselves with stuffing and eating Jello Jigglers. (Dirk Digglers!)
God, that’s got to stop.

I have never even heard of Jello Jigglers (or Dirk Diggler), so I am obviously not of any use. But I’m glad The Hand will be gone soon.
For Thanksgiving, we’re driving down to my parents’ house as usual. It’s nice having a German fiance–no parental fighting over holiday custody, since only one side celebrates. Very convenient.

Or you can make separate jigglers for the adults (just add a little vodka) and have some fun with the relatives.

Congrats on getting rid of the hand. Hope that all goes well for ya.
If I was in charge of the Dirk Digglers I think I would cut them out with Thanksgiving cookie cutters. That would kick ass.
We are doing a Turkey Trot run thingee and then going out to eat. Party on.

I’ve tried doing it in a plain baking sheet and it is so unstable I’ve ended up with liquid jello on my floor. Several times. It’s so not fun to clean up!
Now I just make it in a bowl. Let the party guests carve out fancy slices if they would like. They’ll jiggle just the same.

Shauna – I just got caught up on my blog reading – so sorry about work! Oh, nothing infuriates me more than when someone – especially outside my department – alters my work without discussing it with me first. Oh, your fury is warranted, my dear.
I’ve never made Dirk Digglers. I’ll have to give this a go.
A. and I are traveling five hours across the state to hang out with my folks, step-grandparents and some aunts and uncles. Then, we’ll drive three MORE hours to hang out with my grandma. Woo hoo!
Happy Thanksgiving!

I think the real trick with jigglers are to put a little less water in. That way they’re a little stiffer and easier to cut out with cookie cutters, etc.
All of my husband’s family and his best friend from college are all at our house! We’re having a Texas Thanksgiving and grilling steak instead of making turkey.

I dare you to sculpt a dirk diggler out of a jiggler (or, maybe just part of a diggler), and bring it to the party. DARE. YOU.

Jello Jigglers for Thanksgiving? I love it!
I flew across the state to enjoy two family Thanksgivings – then back to the big city on Sunday.
Hope you enjoyed your day!

I hate when I read posts like this on someone’s archive. “You missed out on a very rad post that ended up being too ____ but thanks”
DAMNIT WHAT WAS IT?!
