Let’s play a game
Hey! Let’s have some contests while I’m gone, OK? Tomorrow I’ll do another “So you think you know us?” quiz, but today, well, today is ANOTHER INSANE WORK DAY BECAUSE IT’S MY LAST ONE FOR AWHILE, so again, no fun time on the Internet. Let’s all imagine how happy and stress-free this makes me.
Anyway, the object of this game will be to guess how many emails I’ll receive while off from work. The winner will win…something. I don’t know yet. Maybe a magnet set. Maybe a sachet made of the cat hair that accumulates during our absence.
OK, here’s some background information. I will be gone for 8 working days (8 GLORIOUS days). To give you some kind of idea of how insane work has been, yesterday I received 23 emails in a 4-minute period. It was straight out of a horror movie, if horror movies took place in a brightly lit office setting. BUT, I will have my out-of-office notification on, which may prevent those pesky follow-up emails.
So…good luck! Guess away. One guess per person, please. The winner is the person who is closest without going over, and will be announced sometime on October 16th.
Ooh, I have no idea but I’ll give it a go just for fun. How about 625? Probably way too small a number, but oh well.

Ok. let’s think: 8 working days. I’m going to say an average of 32 emails per day (I don’t know why, that just seemed reasonable). Which equals (dammit, now I need to open the calculator)…

I say, 412! Just randomly. Seems like a good guess. Also, haha, office horror movies. I can see you hunched over your desk, mouth-breathing, frightfully weilding the mouse in defense as the emails keep coming…and coming…AND COMING! AHHH!!! Okay. I’m done. Sorry.

I’m going with 578. I think the follow-up e-mails will be a lot of “congrats on your wedding…tell me all about it when you get back.”

I’m going to go with 273, because that’s how many I had when I was out of the office for ten working days, and it seems like you probably get a few more emails than I do, so I bet you could get that many in eight.

OK, based on past experience and the fact I know I’ll be CC’d on other emails, times the fact people will forget I’m out of the office, accounting for normal ignorance and stupidity = 321.

Uhh… 23 emails times 15, 4-minute periods in an hour times 8.5 hours times 8 days is way, WAY too many for your inbox to handle. So I vote that your email system crashes and when you get back, you will not only have ZERO emails, you will have ZERO email programs.
I am so going to win this.

I hope that most people will have some shred of decency and will leave you alone for a few days. However, if they are like the idiots I work with, you can forget that. My guess is 412. Congratulations on the big day!!

Out of office never saves my ass. I hate people.
Since I was out yesterday and had 47 emails, I’ll go with 376.

OOOH, how fun! I am basing this off of my own experience, with an out of office message.
I was off for 3 days and had 237 emails when I came in this morning. 237/3=79 emails per day. 79 emails per day time 8 days= 632 emails. I will guess that you come back to 632 emails.
