New pet
Yesterday when I got home from work, Shauna was out in the yard picking up sticks from the afternoon storm. The same storm that in our own area and neighboring suburbs reportedly produced baseball-sized hail and house-damaging winds. We were lucky that our neighborhood avoided most of the damage. Hey, we got our storm damage about a year and a half ago – three weeks after we moved into the house.
I went to set my stuff down on the steps and walked past our sunken egress window. At first glance, everything seemed fine, but there was some rustling, and as I looked again I found a baby bunny had fallen down there.
I called Shauna over, and after the ooohs and aaahs, hopped down there to rescue the poor guy. He was pretty shaken up. I tried to gently grab him a couple of times and he darted around, but the third time he let me lift him to ground level. He sat there for a few moments, and when Shauna was just about to pet him, he took off.
I’m sure he’s joined his family of rabbits in our backyard already.
