Bird watching
Our backyard has seemed like a nature preserve lately.
Since putting up our new bird feeders this year, we’ve seen numerous species in our yard. There are the typical Robins, Grackles, Blue Jays, Cardinals, Mourning Doves, Goldfinches and Nuthatches. I’m sure if Shauna was here with her numerous bird books, she could list off others that have stopped by to clean out the birdseed that I refill every five minutes.
There’s nothing special about the birds we see daily … except for the two Mallards that have taken up occupancy in our backyard. They arrived on Saturday and have been here everyday since. It’s a male and a female, and every time we scare them off, they’re back within the hour. Seems odd considering we’re not all that close to a body of water.
I don’t know if they’ve laid eggs or not. I’ll guess that after I mow the lawn today and they don’t come back, we’ll have our answer.

We’ve had our orieles back for 2 or 3 days now. They are filling up on grape jelly, but I promise…if you put a half an orange out….they will come. Unfortunately, the squirrels like oranges too!
